An irresistible programme of Polish music performed by a superb Polish ensemble. The Royal String Quartet already have one prize-winning recording out on Hyperion and have recently released their second, this time of Szymanowski quartets. In Oxford they are joined by Leeds and Chopin Competition medal winner Alessandro Taverna. The Independent wrote of his interpretation of tonight’s concerto, ‘the world was suffused with grave beauty: flawless minutes of poetry’.
