Unmissable Virtuoso Violist

We are proud to bring you the best young musicians in classical music. This November is one of the highlights of our new generation picks: virtuoso violist, Maxim Rysanov. Already considered as one of the world’s best violists, he has just won the 2008 Gramophone Classic FM Young Artist of the Year. For his Holywell performance he forms a trio with pianist Katya Apekisheva and cellist Kristine Blaumane to perform a sumptuous programme of Britten, Frank Bridge and Brahms.

Rysanov’s outstanding talent has led to tremendous success already. His prestigious Gramophone award came after the magazine’s rave reviews. They recently described his playing as ‘fabulous and deeply moving…mind-blowing,’ and commented that his ‘technical command and imaginative grasp, is outstanding.’

He is in demand from the UK’s top orchestras and this season will perform with several BBC Orchestras, Britten Sinfonia and Bournmouth Symphony Orchestra under Vassily Sinaisky. His impressive discography includes a recording with Janine Jansen (Bach Inventions) that reached No. 1 in the USA ITunes chart. He was even considered for the title role of Vivaldi in the planned Hollywood film. Rysanov is certainly an unmissable musician in our 2008/9 season.

The evening’s programme includes works from Rysanov’s latest Brahms recording and two beautiful pieces by Benjamin Britten and Frank Bridge. The rich timbre of the viola is perfect for Britten’s interpretation of John Dowland’s beautifully expressive song, Lachrymae. Hear Rysanov’s full expressiveness with the deeply moving Frank Bridge piece, There is a Willow Grows Aslant a Brook. Finishing with Brahms, enjoy the gusto of the Scherzo from FAE Sonata, the passion of the Viola Sonata Op 120 and the interplay of the Trio for Viola, Cello and Piano. This fantastic programme is sure to leave you enlivened.

We hope you’ll join us in the beautiful and intimate Holywell Music Room for an unforgettable evening.
