Glorious Baroque With AAM, Suzuki & Sampson

This October hear a trio of leading artists perform an unmissable programme of Handel and Bach. The Academy Of Ancient Music invites renowned Bach practitioner Masaaki Suzuki to direct and perform a programme of masterpieces that includes Handel’s recently re-discovered Gloria. Topping the bill is the exceptional soprano Caroline Sampson, whose voice is a superb match for these sumptuously dramatic and operatic baroque works.

AAM has been acclaimed as the top period orchestra in Britain in the national press and its performances of early music are among the finest you will hear worldwide. It was a pioneering force in period instrument recordings and has maintained an outstanding excellence that only improves over the years. Richard Egarr’s first year as Music Director has won the orchestra warm praise, with Gramophone hailing it as ‘in world-beating form’. Their live recording of Handel’s Concerto Grosso in G Major recorded this summer was described by BBC Music Magazine as having ‘a real joy in the playing, with sharp phrasing from the whole ensemble, and imaginative but never overloaded continuo playing.’ Don’t miss this opportunity to experience it live.

Bach’s Cantata Jauchzet Gott In Allen Landen also promises to be an outstanding performance, being Suzuki’s area of expertise. Sampson will sing in this jubilant work as well as in the Gloria, which was rediscovered only five years ago. Gramophone described her as ‘now the best British early music soprano by quite some distance’ and she has performed with many of the top early music ensembles and orchestras from around the world.

Join us for an evening of baroque music at its very finest.
