Beethoven, Ravel & David Fennessy
Fidelio TrioTHE BOX OFFICE FOR THIS CONCERT IS NOW CLOSED. TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR FROM 7PM.
Music at Oxford is pleased to present a concert by the virtuosic Fidelio Trio at St. John the Evangelist Church, Iffley Road. The Trio will perform a wonderfully varied programme featuring music by Ravel, Beethoven’s Archduke Piano Trio, as well as the world premiere public performance of David Fennessy’s moving Piano Trio No. 2 In Memoriam Spencer Boney. The Fidelio Trio are widely celebrated for their ‘stylish virtuosity… instinctive brilliance’ (BBC Radio 3 Record Review) and ‘consummate musicianship’ (The Observer) and should not be missed.
David Fennessy started out as a guitarist in a school rock band, then studied classical guitar and ultimately composition with Sir James MacMillan. Shortlisted twice for the Gaudeamus Music Prize in Amsterdam (2000 and 2006), in 2010 he won a prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award, providing significant support over three years. Fennessy’s music has been performed nationally and internationally by many groups including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, Hebrides Ensemble, London Sinfonietta, RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the RTE Concert Orchestra. His music is published by Universal Edition.
The Fidelio Trio was shortlisted for the 2016 Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards and since their debut at London’s Southbank Centre, they have regularly appeared at the Wigmore Hall and Kings Place, at festivals including Spitalfields, Cheltenham, St. Magnus and Huddersfield, and internationally. We are very excited to have them perform for us here in Oxford in the presence of the composer.
