Learning Resources for kids – Aurora Orchestra

We are always delighted by the sheer ingenuity of the education and social outreach teams employed by the UK’s arts organisations. Today we highlight a video series that introduces children to some of the great pieces in the Classical music canon from the Aurora Orchestra, and what’s more, it comes complete with a sequin jumpsuit!

Aurora Orchestra’s online video series Join in with Jessie accompanies their Aurora Play series of live performance recordings. The videos are designed to help kids listen and engage with the music whilst introducing them to basic musical ideas. The videos themselves are short (ideal for small attention spans!) but they introduce creative activities that children can continue developing whilst listening to the full performance. And it’s the perfect excuse to let out your inner child too! Join in with monster dances, find out what it feels like to fly and what you need to become a superhero, all with Jessie and the Aurora Orchestra.

The pieces covered by the Join in with Jessie’s series to date are as follows:

Episode 1: Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique – The Monster Dance
Episode 2: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 ‘Eroica’ – Superheroes
Episode 3: Strauss’ Oboe Concerto in D major
Episode 4: Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 ‘Jupiter’ – Drawing Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony

You can find all the videos of the full, live performances on their Aurora Play website.
