An exciting education project

On Wednesday 23rd March, New Marston Primary School will be hosting the Fidelio Trio and Felicity Smith (our new Community Engagement and Concerts Co-ordinator) for a music assembly. We are really excited about the opportunity to share some of the Fidelio’s repertoire with Key Stage 2 (years 3 – 6) – year 3 are provided with the opportunity to learn either the cello or the violin, so they will already know a lot about these instruments! The Fidelio Trio will be performing excerpts of Ravel’s Piano Trio in A minor, Beethoven’s ‘Archduke’ Trio and Fennessy’s Piano Trio No. 3 ‘In Memoriam Spencer Boney’. Spencer was an exceptionally talented black pianist who died in 1995 at the age of 22 after a fatal car accident. He was the original pianist for the ensemble, and we are looking forward to exploring his story and photographs with those who knew him so well, both as a musician and friend.

The Fidelio Trio will also be giving coaching sessions to some newly formed chamber ensembles at the Centre for Music in Barton. The Oxfordshire County Music Service is anticipating that this will kick-start chamber music in the County again, after a long hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please note that the the coaching sessions are now fully booked. We are pleased to have started our education and community engagement work and look forward to many more in the future. Do keep any eye out for further news about our work.

If you would like to see the Fidelio Trio in concert, they are performing on 26th February at St John the Evangelist Church.
